Afterfall: A Stylish Handwritten Font for Web Projects

I was working on a redesign for a boutique online store selling handcrafted jewelry, and the first thing I noticed was how the existing typography felt flat. The brand had a creative, artisanal vibe that wasn’t reflected in the font choices. That’s when I decided to test Afterfall—a bold and elegant handwritten font from Script Amp. It immediately stood out as a strong contender for the project.

What Makes Afterfall Stand Out

Afterfall is more than just a script font—it has a confident, dynamic energy that feels both modern and personal. The strokes are fluid yet structured, giving it a balance between spontaneity and professionalism. As a handwritten typeface, it adds warmth and character to any digital layout without feeling too casual or unpolished.

One of the first things I noticed about Afterfall was its readability. Even though it's a script font, the letterforms are clear and legible, especially at larger sizes. This made it ideal for headlines, hero sections, and call-to-action buttons where attention-grabbing text is key.

Testing Afterfall in Real Layouts

I started by applying Afterfall to the main headline of the homepage. The original design used a generic sans serif font that didn’t match the brand’s personality. Once I swapped it out for Afterfall, the impact was immediate. The text felt more inviting and aligned with the brand’s artistic identity.

I also tested it on mobile screens. Since Afterfall is PUA encoded, it worked seamlessly across devices without any issues. I made sure to keep the font size large enough so that the characters remained sharp and readable even on smaller screens. For buttons and short phrases, like “Shop Now” or “Explore Collection,” the font added a touch of elegance without being distracting.

Using Afterfall Across Different Sections

As I continued testing Afterfall, I found it worked well in several areas:

I also considered font pairing. To maintain a clean and professional look, I paired Afterfall with a simple sans serif font for body copy. This combination helped create a clear visual hierarchy, making the content easier to scan and read.

Readability and Brand Consistency

When choosing a font, readability is always a top priority. Afterfall performed well in this regard, especially when used for short phrases and headlines. However, I avoided using it for long paragraphs or body text, as script fonts can be harder to read in extended blocks of text.

For dark backgrounds, I applied a subtle white or light gray overlay to ensure the text remained visible. On light backgrounds, the font maintained its contrast and clarity. Overall, Afterfall contributed to a more polished and consistent brand experience, reinforcing the boutique’s unique identity.

Practical Tips for Using Afterfall

If you're considering Afterfall for your next project, here are a few tips to keep in mind:

  1. Check webfont availability: Ensure the font is properly optimized for web use and includes all necessary styles and weights.
  2. Consider file formats: Look for support for common formats like WOFF and WOFF2 to ensure fast loading times.
  3. Review multilingual support: If your website serves an international audience, confirm that the font supports the required languages.
  4. Verify commercial licensing: Make sure you have the right to use the font on client projects, landing pages, or brand assets.
  5. Test across devices: Always preview your design on different screen sizes to ensure the font looks great everywhere.

Afterfall is a versatile and stylish choice for designers looking to elevate their typography. Whether you're building a creative portfolio, launching a product landing page, or redesigning a coaching website, this font can add a unique and memorable touch to your brand’s visual identity.
